Tie

Tie is a 5-year-old Deaf boy. He is a very sweet, gentle child. He has an endearing smile and it is clear, after spending a little time with him, why he is the favorite of one of his caretakers. Tie appears to be delayed in his growth and development; we have no way of knowing what will happen when he has a family and is given the kinds of support services that are not available in China but are very accessible here. We understand that a family who adopts Tie needs to be comfortable with the unknowns that are part of a situation like this, but we can’t give up on him. We know that whatever the future holds for Tie will be so much better and brighter with a family (familiar with sign language) here in America than in an orphanage in China.

Nian and Pei

Nian is a quiet, kind-hearted 10-year-old girl, the nicest girl you’d ever want to meet. During the Journey of Hope Camp she asked, with such hopefulness, if we could find her a family with brothers and sisters. Nian’s teachers describe her as “honest and strict with herself,” and she is known for tenderly caring for some of the younger children. Nian is
considered a slow learner at school, although she is completely independent in taking care of herself, is very competent outside the classroom, and is in excellent health. We don’t know the source or the extent of her learning difficulties, and cannot say how she will do in school once she can be fully evaluated and appropriate supports are put in place. We know that a family who adopts Nian is taking a chance, but we SO HOPE that someone will be willing to do that. We were incredibly moved by her earnest request for a family with brothers and sisters. We want to do everything we can to make her dream come true.

Pei is also 10-years-old. He is not flashy and doesn’t stand out from the crowd—he is just a nice, nice boy. Pei enjoys playing with other children, and he is proud of his artistic accomplishments. Pei seemed, to us, like a little lost soul. He didn’t demand attention, he didn’t need much from anyone, he did whatever was expected, no more and no less. And if he seemed like a lost soul in a group of 28 Journey of Hope kids, we can only imagine what life is like for him when he at the orphanage with a group of 700. It is so clear that a family environment, where he has parents who will love him and pay more attention to him will be SO MUCH BETTER. Pei has trouble with schoolwork, although he is more than able to take care of himself, and the learning issues he has in the classroom are not apparent in other settings. As with some other Journey of Hope children, Pei will benefit from better evaluation tools and support services. But what Pei NEEDS MOST is a FAMILY OF HIS VERY OWN.

Chuan and Hong

Chuan is the MOST WONDERFUL 7-year-old boy. We gave him the nickname The Little Man because of his grown up button down shirt and commanding presence at our Journey of Hope Camp. Recently the orphanage staff began talking with the children about who wants to leave the orphanage to live with an adoptive family and Chuan is ALWAYS the FIRST to raise his hand—he wants to be part of a family that much. His teachers report that he “has been very bright since he was very young,” and that “everybody likes him.” Chuan has a skin condition and sometimes breaks out in rashes. We have some information about this condition, but because he does not have an outbreak at this time we may not be able to obtain the additional information that a biopsy might provide. This boy’s charming ways and unwavering desire for an adoptive family are SO OUTSTANDING. Our inability to match him with a family yet only means that he and his forever family still haven’t found one another, a situation that is crying out to be remedied.

Hong is SUCH a nice 9-year-old Deaf girl. She is shy and sweet and needs a little encouragement to laugh and play and have fun. She can be seen in photos and on the video laughing with the other children, and she has the biggest smile on her face. She is a very good student, and gets all As in school. Hong’s best friend at the orphanage, another 9 year old Deaf girl, has already been matched with a family, and it would break our hearts if her friend gets adopted but she does not. We don’t know why a match has not yet happened for her but we KNOW that there HAS to be some family here in America (familiar with sign language) who will want to have Hong for a daughter.

Greetings to all of our Alliance For Children Blog Members.

We want to wish you well in the coming year. We hope that 2010 brings you much joy and happiness. For us, 2010 will be a time to watch so many of “our” Journey of Hope children from China join their families—and what a thrill that will be. But as happy as we are for the children and families that have found one another, we are concerned about those who are left behind. We remain steadfast in our mission to find families for the rest. And so once again we appeal to you, the most child-friendly, adoption-friendly, like-minded people we know, to help find families for Chuan, Hong, Nian, Pei, and Tie, the five children who are left…

We will tell you a bit about each of the children who still need families, in separate entries, so you’ll be able to read every word. And we hope you will take a moment to do just that.

If you are not in a position to adopt any of these children yourself, please help us spread the word. Pass this information about Chuan, Hong, Nian, Pei, and Tie to any person, organization, or listserv that may lead them to a forever family. If anyone wants to find out more about any of these children they can see photos of each child at: http://www.allforchildren.org/minisite-china/children.html
If they want to know more about the next steps in adopting, they can contact Lin Jing at: ljing@allforchildren.org

We so appreciate your support and assistance.
With many thanks—and our very best wishes,
Lin Jing, Vivian Cone, and Renee Lubowich
